Signing Off

It is with a VERY heavy heart that I let you all know that I have decided to stop The Etsian for awhile, maybe forever. I need to know my limits, and my day job and home life are suffering because I just have too much going on, so I need to cut back.

In its short little run, I think The Etsian has done very well and I have had a ball featuring so many great shops and running Tuesday Trivia. Thank you to all of you who have read the blog and participated in the contest every week. Maybe I'll be back in a few months, but for now, I have to focus my energy in other places.

From Behind the Lens

Photography is one of my life's true loves. Ever since I was a little kid, I've had a camera stuck to my face wherever I go. I recently got my first "big kid" camera and shot my first wedding a few weeks ago. I love capturing memories and sharing them with others.

Squidart is the Etsy photographer who offered to donate to this week's Tuesday Trivia Contest. When she offered, she shared with me her blog, which spoke to me so much as a "new" photographer with its tutorials and examples of her amazing work. I love the old fashioned look she gives to her photographs...they remind me of simpler times and are very calming to me.

One Yummy Review!

A few weeks ago I wrote a delicious post about some of the yummy treats on Etsy. One of the featured sellers, BlissCandies, generously offered to send me a sample of the truffles I featured. After absolutely no hesitation, I accepted the offer and anxiously awaited my treats.

This was the first time I've ever ordered food off of the internet, so I must say my expectations weren't extremely high. However, when I popped the first of the six beautifully decorated truffles into my mouth, I literally almost fell out of my seat. With no exaggeration whatsoever, they were melt in my mouth A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. They were gone in three minutes, and the poor truffles didn't stand a chance.

Also included in my little gift was one of these caramel candies. I was so excited about my truffles, that I forgot about the vanilla caramel candy until my husband discovered it on the kitchen counter. Now, my husband is not a fruits and veggies kind of guy. He likes his sweets. He's judgmental about what is good and what is not. Here's how the caramel candy played out.

Husband: Hey! What's this! Are you holding out on me?
Wifey: Oh yeah! I forgot about the candy they gave us!
Husband: ::crinkle crinkle, chomp:: HOLY CRAP! This is amazing! Can you order a pound of this stuff?

Congrats, BlissCandies, you got the husband stamp of approval, quite a feat in my house.

Vacation, All I Ever Wanted...

Sorry for the long block of time without posts, although I do have to admit, I'm not toooo sorry because I was off on vacation! Every summer my girlfriends and I pack our bags, and our significant others too, and head to camp on Great Sacandaga Lake in Upstate New York. The week was exactly what we all needed..plenty of R&R, beverages, swimming, and good times with friends. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the week!

Today promises to be a bit crazy at work, but I promise, Tuesday Trivia will be back tomorrow and we will get back to our regularly scheduled program of highlighting the amazing handmade work of fellow Etsians!

Mod MomME tagged me on her blog earlier this week. As a tagged member of the blogging world, I now have to share with you all 10 facts about myself, and then tag another 10 bloggers. So, here you go, a little lesson on me!

1. I never considered myself to be a really crafty person until I became a teacher. One of my students turned in an awesome project and I thought "Wow, that's so easy, I could do that." I started making cards and finally got very serious about it this past March.

2. I'm fluent in Spanish and lived abroad in Sevilla, Spain for a semester of college.

3. My husband and I went to high school together but were never friends. He was a senior when I was a freshman and I always thought he and his friends were so cute. He had no clue who I was. Ten years later he bought me a drink at a bar and the rest was history :)

4. I auditioned for the Real World Paris cast. I still have my rejection letter from MTV.

5. I am a huge Red Sox fan.

6. I was a cheerleader in high school and a rugby player in college. Yes, I know that makes no sense at all.

7. Chew in my ear and you might get a black eye. No I'm not a violent person but the sound of chewing makes me want to claw my eyes out!

8. I currently work as an Admissions representative for a local University. The most ridiculous essay I ever read was about why my school was the student's #2 choice.

9. My wedding day was the best day of my life. I know that's incredibly cliché, but there really is nothing like that day.

10. Love Actually is my all time favorite movie.

Those of you who are Etsy sellers know the drill. We make things because we love to craft, we sell on Etsy in hopes of making a little extra money, and we spend most of our spare time on the forums meeting each other and promoting our shops. We all dream that someday our shops might take off but for the most part we just do it for the fun of it.

Stoopher is an Etsy seller who frequents the boards. I've seen her in chat rooms, in different forums, and I hearted her shop quite awhile back. She's regular, normal, and has a very cute shop of adorable baby onesies and t-shirts.

Yesterday I was poking around in the forums when I saw this title: "Sarah Jessica Parker's Twins Are Wearing My Shirts!" Sure enough it was Stoopher, and she posted this article, which broke the news and promoted her Etsy store. Since then this picture of Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, and the girls has exploded all over the internet, and you guessed it, those cute pink outfits are straight from Stoopher's shop.

This is publicity you can't even dream about, and I think I speak for all Etsy sellers when I say we are so excited for Stoopher.

A little known fact about Etsy outside of its own community is that its not just handmade paper and textile goods. California Love

California has such a special place in my heart. Even though it is literally on the other side of the country, 3000 miles away from here, there is a certain part of me that will always stay on the west coast. Although I only lived there for 6 months after I was born, most of my family live on the west coast. My maternal grandmother has always been "Nana in California" and my brother now resides just outside of L.A. I have spent numerous vacations, celebrated weddings and anniversaries with family and friends in Tahoe, driven most of coastal Route 1, seen a red carpet movie premier in Hollywood, and been on a date night on the Santa Monica Peer. I love the sun, I love the landscape, and I love the colors.

So, when Etsy shop owner, CaliforniaBlue, emailed me I was thrilled at the opportunity to feature her shop. Her jewelry is gorgeous, and truly embraces the colors and feel of the California coast. Just looking at these pictures makes me want to blow off work and hop a plane to Lake Tahoe.

Welcome to The Etsian! Since starting my Etsy store, KT Paper Crafts in March, I have been amazed at all the incredible handmade goods there are offered throughout the Etsy website. I find myself constantly ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the amazing work there is, and am so appreciative of the time and effort fellow Etsians put into all they do.

I have been throwing the blog idea around for awhile now, but wanted to put something together that would truly be of interest to its readers. I thought, what better way, than to highlight them.
